Following your tooth extraction, Dr. Jiries Mogannam, Dr. Vicente Chavez, Dr. Christopher Chow and Dr. William Verlinden recommend the following:

  • To help the blood clot and begin site healing, bite on a piece of gauze for the half hour immediately following your appointment. You can keep the blood clot intact by avoiding smoking, alcohol, straws, over-aggressive brushing or rinsing.
  • Limit physical activity on the day following the extraction.
  • Take pain medication and apply ice to help mitigate swelling.
  • Make sure to follow all directions, either from our oral surgeons and team, and follow the directions for taking your medication or antibiotics.
  • Eat soft foods and keep hydrated after your visit.
  • Return to normal hygiene and eating habits when possible, including flossing and brushing.

Symptoms should subside after a few days. If they do continue or exacerbate, contact Petaluma Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center at 707-769-1414 or meet with our oral surgeons in Petaluma, California.
